How it Works
Swishing is the art of getting together with friends to swap the clothes you no longer wear for something you love. Swish North East organises Swishing events on a grand scale with somewhere in the region of 200 ladies, 600 items of clothing and lots of quirky and gorgeous retailers.
If you’d like to come Swishing here’s how it works:
- Pick at least three (maximum 5) items from your wardrobe that you no longer wear – shoes, boots, scarves, jewellery, accessories and bags are all great to bring along as well as items of clothing.
- The items must clean and of high quality (not necessarily designer), no casual vests, t-shirts or anything that is damaged. Something that you’d be proud to see someone else wear.
- You bring the items along to the swish and hand them in to one of our lovely helpful Swishing Wardens at the entrance. You will be given a swishing token in exchange for each item accepted into the swish.
- Time to browse the retailers and exhibitors.
- Often our retailers offer freebies such as mini manicures or hair curling, which are always very popular, so make sure you put your name down early enough if you’d like to partake in some free pampering!
- While you are browsing and pampering, the Swish team are working hard to arrange all of your items in our swishing area in order of size.
- Once the Swishing area is ready we will invite you to browse the Swish. You can try on any items you like in our temporary changing rooms and our Swishing Wardens are on hand to offer advice and assistance.
- Once all of our ladies have browsed the Swish we’ll ask you to keep in mind the items you have fallen for.
- Now comes the exciting part! We clear the Swishing area and will make an announcement to declare the Swish open! You can then grab the items you’d like to take – and remember ladies, no biting, spitting or scratching! Again our Swishing wardens are on hand to help and take your swishing tokens from you in exchange for your new items.
- Once the Swish is complete you are free to browse for as long as you like.
